Microphones

Since the last years, the sector of audio equipment did enjoy growth. From all the audio equipments that have been produced so far, we do have the audio playback devices, listening devices, and recording devices. From those ones, audio recording equipments are considered to be one of the most important kind because they need to capture audio before doing anything else with that. The most usual type of recording device is the microphone. First, the sound will be captured, then it will be converted to a digital signal. Therefore microphones are considered to be an essential part of any recording operation. Here Microphones you will learn more about the best microphones.

There are many different kind of microphones available to end-user. Like: the ribbon microphone, dynamic microphone, carbon microphone, condenser microphone, laser microphone, and piezoelectric microphone. Such categorization is used upon the type of technology being used in each type of microphone. Another thing is that there is another type of categorization of microphones. Those based on where they will get the audio from. Another name for that is "polar pattern". By this categorization, we find quite a few types of microphones:

Ominidirectional: Such microphones will pick up the sound from every sides. But, they won't pick up any sound coming from behind the microphone. Check here Best Dynamic Microphones to know more about Dynamic Microphones.
Cardioid: Those microphones are simply great whenever you want to pick up the audio from the front. They are great the moment you want to record audio/music.
Bi-directional: These microphones have the ability to pick up sound from 2 sides of the microphone. Many ribbon microphones will use such polar pattern.
Shotgun microphones: This kind of microphone do have lobes of sensitivity on the sides, besides having one on the rear of the microphone.

Out of the above categories, shotgun microphones are deemed most suitable for recording conditions where sound needs to be picked up from all directions, such as video recording sets. Shotgun microphones are done so they have slits all the way down the side of the microphone, and over a long shaft. Although they are able to capture sound from the rear, the sensitivity range of shotgun microphones is quite low, making them ideal for the sets where TV shows and movies are recorded.
