The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tranforming To Server Virtualisation

Many companies run a sites or host of sites through a server virtualisation. Server virtualisation is the utilization of one huge server that hosts various websites, as compared to all the websites being run on their personal individual server. There are various pros-and-cons that come along with virtualisation that will be discussed here.

The most important reason that a website would choose to utilize a Server Virtualisation is to cut back on expenses. The costs of sharing a server as opposed to have own server for that site is different. By sharing a server with a few of other websites this lets the cost to be split for that server amongst the several firms.

Another reason is bandwidth. A smaller site that doesn't need a lot of bandwidth really doesn't need all the space that a single server will offer. Not only will it cut back costs but it gives the site the right amount of web space with out having to pay for any useless or idle space. This is a nice option for company sites that are smaller in size and have no plans to grow in the near future.

There are a few negative aspect to server virtualisation that can prevent a site from running smoothly. 1st is the concern of accessibility. If a couple of websites are owned by one company but split on the server that is being shared, if that specific server goes down all the websites go down and are not available to the public at that time. This is a downside as there is no back-up. It is a short-term problem and a rather rare one.

Another disadvantage to server virtualisation is the security. Although the majority of the time a site is protected and can be accessed with no problems. There are occasional times when this isn't the case and the info from one site is viewable by accident by any other log in user on that particular server. This is one more rare problem with a server virtualisation but it can occur and those considering going this route with their website have to consider these pros and cons.
